1. Increased
Punching power
is only going to happen if you begin
using your
hips. I cannot think of any style of martial arts, or boxing
for that matter, that does not use the hips. Rotating your hips
at the
moment of contact puts your entire body into a punch, not just your
arm. Think of how much your body weighs compared to your arm,
and that is how much added force you are putting behind your
punching power. If you are not using your hips, you are seriously
limiting your punching power.
2. You will need to make a proper fist as shown here:
3. Punch beyond
the target for raw punching power. This is
painfully obvious when breaking boards, but holds true when
punching any target. If you aim your punch and focus your
punching power beyond the target, almost acting as if it is not
there, you will go through your target every time. If you are
punching an opponent, the increase in power using this technique
will be a fight stopper.
4. Punching power uses straight lines. Any idiot can throw
a
haymaker in a bar fight, but if your can learn to punch in
straight lines, your punching power will be much greater.
Not only will your opponent be caught more off guard, but the
punch will connect to the target quicker, because you are
following a straight line, the shortest path to the target.
5. Punching power increases when you increase your speed.
If you can add the other 3 techniques, and also add speed, you
can face an opponent much larger than you and punch them with
the same amount of power. The quicker you can throw a punch,
the less actual brute force you will have to put behind it, and the
laws of physics will take care of everything for you.
6. Train with a makiwara for ultimate
punching power.
Makiwara training will increase your punching power and toughen
your hands at the same time. The makiwara striking post has been
used in martial arts (primarily Japan) for hundreds of years.
Stick
with tradition and keep to the basics. The massive punching power
will come naturally.
7. Punching power is at its highest when all of your bones are in
alignment. You must make a fist so that your fist two knuckles
line
up with the rest of your arm in a straight line. If your wrist is bent
at all, your punching power is decreased, because you do not have
that linear strength from the power of your arm.
Final note:
Power punching training is not about your knuckles;
that is like saying learning to play the piano is all about building
up calluses on your fingertips. Punching power training is about
strengthening your stance, understanding striking distance,
developing proper focus, understanding body mechanics, and
developing real punching power. It is through this training that
you will begin to develop amazing body, mind, and breath
coordination.
Good luck with your training,
